What Is Plasma
Plasma is the 4th state of matter and is created when gases in the air are ionized with the help of a special device, which creates a small electrical arc that treats loose wrinkled skin – without spreading unwanted heat to any other areas..
With the help of a disposable probe, the plasma practitioner marks a small grid to create a retraction of the skin by creating combustion of the skin without damaging surrounding tissue.
The plasma pen tightening treatment protocol utilizing a true plasma pen has been around for over 10 years, predominantly in Europe.
This creates fine grey-brown scales, so-called “carbon dust”, which disappear a few days after each session.
The procedure is carried out in an outpatient setting, under topical or local anesthesia and can be used for numerous aesthetic concerns, treating loose facial skin, scarring, and to perform skin tightening and brow lifts.
The theory behind the Plasma Pen skin tightening is the sublimation of keratinized cells without any bleeding or excessive trauma. Sublimation means a conversion of excess skin on the epidermis, from a solid state to a gaseous state without its becoming a liquid.
How Plasma Pen Works
Plasma Pen ionizes the gases present in the air by generating a small voltaic arc. An electrical arc (spark) is created between the planned treated epidermal area (superfluous skin) and a
sterile disposable probe.
An anesthetic cream can be provided before the treatment. Before starting, the wrinkles and folds to be potentially treated are manually identified and documented. This provider arranges small (<1mm) DOTS in a triangle or zigzag pattern in order to
achieve a subliminal tightening.
After the treatment, exosomes and/or LED can be added to expedite healing (option), and the patient must leave the skin dry for 24 hours. Then the area can be gently cleaned with a pH neutral soap and water, delicately drying the area by dabbing with a clean soft wash cloth, until the carbon dust disappears.
Down time varies from patient to patient – however most experience 5-7 days of exfoliation and redness. Sun protection must be worn to protect the skin after treatment.
